■MANABU FUJII■

I was born on October 20th, 1966 in Fukuyama, Hiroshima.

I learned piano from early childhood and, at 12, was put in charge of the trumpets in the wind instruments section of the school orchestra.
At 14, I formed my own musical group with a few close friends and started playing the drums.

When I reached 15, I heard a recording of “Rich vs. Roach” and was awakened to the world of JAZZ.
After that, I started performing in local rock bands and events all over the Fukuyama area.

I entered the university in Nagoya and studied under my mentor, Professor Nobuyasu Satake, joined a rock band “Bonita” and got involved in various events.
I then started to perform in live jazz performances in earnest and took active roles with many musical groups.
I even performed with the Hilton Hotel house band and at local television stations.

I went to Tokyo and joined the Takino Band and performed at their debut performance. Satoshi Takino is a great artist with whom I had been performing since my days in Nagoya. I took part in live house, radio and many other types of musical performances. I also participated in “Oshare 30:30” in Yasuko Agawa’s backup band.

I returned to Fukuyama at 27 where I started performing my “Manabu Special” regularly, performing with guest artists both from within Japan and from abroad.
At present, I am based in Tokyo and active in live performances and events all over the country.

I can perform jazz, fusion, rock, soul, bossa nova, latin and other musical genres.
You can trust me with anything to do with drums. I am constantly involved in various events and I have even been recorded on CD.

Performed at the Yokohama JAZZ Promenade in 2000 and 2001 and in the Okayama Jazz Festival from 2003 to 2005. I also played in the Muroran Jazz Cruise in 2005 (Kei Kobayashi + You Kobayashi Quartet), the Taichung Jazz Festival (Yoshiko Kishino Trio) in 2005.

I also sang in various television and radio commercial songs as a vocalist.

I have performed with the following artists throughout my career: Yasuko Agawa, Kei Kobayashi, Naoko Terai, Akira Ishii, Yoshiko Kishino, Jou Yamada, Ichiko Hashimoto, Eiichi Hayashi, Tomonao Hara, Keiji Matsushima, Yutaka Shiina, Koichi Osamu, Seiji Tada, Osamu Koike, Kengo Nakamura, Akira Onozuka, Shigeharu Mukai, Harumi Kaneko, Jiro Yoshida, Andy Eslin, Sandy Blair, Carl Carter, Winston Mako, Bryant McNeill, Bob Kenmots, Joshua Breakstone, Barry Finnerty and many more.

I released a CD recording with Satoshi Takino (Victor) and others.

I released my first album as lead performer, entitled "I'm a Drummer",
playing with Jiro Yoshida(Guitar), Carl Carter(Bass), David Finck(Bass), Andy Ezrin(Piano) and Ole Mathisen(Sax).
(recorded in New Jersey, USA.)
